Hawke’s Bay Hockey is the home of hockey in the region. Based at Park Island in Napier, the Association supports thousands of players each season, from juniors picking up a stick for the first time to representative teams competing at national level.
With so many teams, players and families to support, hockey teamwear plays an important role in how the Association presents itself on and off the turf. It also needs to be practical, consistent and easy to manage across a large hockey programme.
The Challenge: Inconsistent Hockey Teamwear and Too Much Admin
Over time, Hawke’s Bay Hockey’s kit had been built up one order at a time. Different suppliers and separate orders had led to variations in colour, logo placement and fit, which meant the overall range did not always feel consistent across the Association.
Fit was another important consideration. Hockey players need hockey uniforms that allow them to move comfortably on the turf, while still working across different ages, teams and body types.
Merchandise management was also taking up valuable time. Orders, sizing, payments and deliveries were being handled by a small team and volunteers whose main focus needed to remain on running hockey.
Hawke’s Bay Hockey wanted a hockey uniform supplier that could help with three key areas:
- create a refreshed and consistent look across the full range
- improve garment fit for the way hockey players move
- provide clear communication and take more of the merchandise administration off the Association’s hands
How Kooga Helped
A Consistent Custom Hockey Teamwear Range
Kooga started by reviewing the full Hawke’s Bay Hockey range, from playing kit through to training gear and supporter merchandise.
From there, the design was refreshed with consistent colours, logo placement and styling across the different garments. The result is a more connected look across the Association, whether it is a junior player, a representative team or a supporter on the sideline.
This approach also gives Hawke’s Bay Hockey a clearer foundation for future orders, rather than treating each garment or team as a separate project.
Fits Developed With Hockey in Mind
The fits across the range were reviewed so the hockey teamwear would be comfortable, practical and better suited to movement on the turf.
The aim was not simply to create a stronger visual identity, but to make sure the clothing worked for the players wearing it across different levels of the Association.
A Fully Managed Club Online Shop
Kooga also set up club online shops for Hawke’s Bay Hockey and manages them on the Association’s behalf.
Players, families and supporters can order directly online, while Kooga manages production and delivery. This removes much of the administration involved in collecting orders, managing payments and coordinating distribution.
It also gives supporters a simple way to purchase official Hawke’s Bay Hockey merchandise while helping generate revenue for the Association.

Clear Communication From Design to Delivery
Hawke’s Bay Hockey works with one Kooga contact throughout the process.
Designs and proofs are reviewed and approved before production begins, giving the Association clear visibility over what is being ordered and helping keep the final range consistent.
That ongoing communication has been an important part of the partnership, particularly when working across different products, deadlines and budgets.
The Result: A More Consistent Look and Less Merchandise Admin
Hawke’s Bay Hockey now has a more consistent, professional look across its teams, with a custom hockey teamwear range that better reflects the Association as a whole.
The online shop has also achieved strong sell-through, giving players and supporters an easier way to purchase official gear while providing the Association with an ongoing source of revenue.
Most importantly, the partnership has reduced the amount of merchandise administration Hawke’s Bay Hockey needs to manage internally. Kooga supports the teamwear programme from design and ordering through to production and delivery.
